Quest for the Best Breakfast: Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel

The iconic Beverly Hills Hotel. I’m almost at a loss for words! Of course I have heard many things about this place, but until this past weekend I had never experienced it for myself. The weekend gave us a small glimpse of the Spring weather that is just around the corner (although today is freezing and I’m hoping that Spring weather comes back soon!) so, Allie and I decided to take advantage and choose a breakfast place where we could sit outside. And we definitely picked the right place. Sitting outside at the Polo Lounge is to die for. Flowers everywhere, adorable white iron chairs. I mean I couldn’t get enough of it!

AND the food was amazing! This place is scoring all kinds of points with me.

Since Allie finished her search for the best blueberry pancakes, she ordered Challah French Toast with toasted Macadamia nuts, bananas, and vanilla butter. Oh. My. Gosh. Amazing.

The Eggs Benedict was so delicious. The hollandaise sauce was perfection. The Canadian bacon was like real Canadian bacon and not the kind I could buy packaged at the grocery store like other restaurants have served. The English muffin was toasted and buttered yumminess. My only minor problem with it was that the yolk wasn’t runny. Now, I don’t think it ruined the dish because it was still wonderful, but I do think I would have preferred it runny.

This is definitely a contender in this competition! And the only reason I’m hesitant to name it the winner, is because I have heard of a place that serves their Eggs Benedict on a croissant. And I think I would be crazy not to try that before I name my winner. So, I’m going to continue my search and I will name the Best Eggs Benedict on April 16, National Eggs Benedict Day.

Stay tuned!

^^Our waitress, Ana, was the cutest and sweetest!! Yet another reason why I loved this place!

Quest for the Best Breakfast Winner: BLD

Allie and I woke up early this past Sunday to beat the rush of Sunday Brunchers and continue our search for the Best Breakfast! This week we tried BLD.

Allie and I heard through the grape vine that BLD  had the best blueberry pancakes ever! So, of course we had to try it out…and we have a WINNER!

BLD HAS THE BEST BLUEBERRY PANCAKES WE HAVE EVER TRIED! Their secret is the ricotta cheese they put in the batter! And their syrup container is the cutest thing I have ever seen. So, bonus points!

The Eggs Benedict was pretty amazing too.

They grilled the Canadian Bacon (brilliant) and put a couple slices to thicken it. So, they scored points in the meat category. Their hollandaise sauce was so good; it had a kick of lemon, which was unique and delicious! But, the bread was where they lost points. It was a house-made English Muffin, which sounded promising to me. But, when I tried it, it actually tasted incredibly bland. If they work on that part of the dish, they might just have themselves two winning dishes! But, unfortunately, they left me still in the search for the best Eggs Benedict.

Luckily, the lovely woman sitting next to us happened to be an Eggs Benedict lover too and she gave us some suggestions of restaurants to try.  So, I have a feeling I’m not too far away from finding it!

Fingers crossed.

Best Eggs Benedict in NYC (apparently)

While I was in New York, I missed Sunday Funday with Allie and couldn’t continue our search for the Best Breakfast. BUT, Emily had heard about a restaurant in New York City that apparently had the best Eggs Benedict! So, you didn’t have to tell me twice…we headed right on over to Balthazar to try it out for ourselves.

And the verdict…Pretty amazing! It certainly was one of the best Eggs Benedicts I have ever tasted. The Hollandaise sauce was perfectly creamy with a kick of something that made it a tad spicy…just how I like it! And while it wasn’t a thick piece of ham the way I like it to be, they did put a couple pieces of thin ham so it did make up for it. They toasted and buttered the english muffin…so so so delicious!

The Hazlenut Sour Cream waffles were also pretty amazing! I’m kind of loving sour cream on things sweet like the blueberry sour cream pancakes from The Griddle.

This Egg Pastry dish was to die for too!

And the service was impeccable. Seriously, the chefs were so fast. So fast. I can’t even describe it.

Since I didn’t have enough time to taste Eggs Benedict at any other restaurant in New York City, I’ll just go ahead and take Emily’s friend’s word for it and say it was the best Eggs Benedict in NYC!!
