It’s good to be home!

January, for me, is always bittersweet.  The store closes on New Years Eve and we immediately switch gears and head to New York and Atlanta to work on our buy for next season.  We don’t even get a minute to catch our breath and reflect on the past season!!  Now don’t get me wrong, this trip is totally fun and I get to spend the whole time with Patty (check out the video that Caroline made of our buying trip to NYC !!), but I’m usually gone for 3 weeks!  (And this January, I also managed to sneak in a trip to Mexico for my friend Amanda’s bachelorette party!! I’ll be posting about that trip next time!)

Steve refers to January as Manuary – lots of frozen pizzas and not enough clean underwear.  But it wasn’t so bad for him this year because Miss Ivy was there to keep him company.   I end up really missing my sweet family, my little island and our community. So when it’s time to come home, I am so happy to.  This year,  silly Janus got in the way and my homecoming was delayed by one more day…but I finally made it:

Goodtobehome1goodtobehome2goodtobehome3The first thing I did when I got home was take that little (not so little anymore) rascal face on a walk!

A little video of my day.  Yep, I need some video training.  Allison & Caroline are way better at it.

The Atlanta Gift Show 2014!

Hello from Atlanta!  Patty and I just finished up a successful trip to the Gift Mart to stock up on goodies for next year!  It’s hard to believe that we are buying for Milly & Grace’s 5th season!  Where has the time gone?  It just seems like yesterday that we were gearing up to buy for our very first year.  We were nervous, confused and didn’t know where to begin.  Now we have it down a little more and I’m really excited about all the new things we found.  Ok, so here’s a few of our favorites….

Now don’t you all roll your eyes at once, but we picked up a dog toy and accessory line called Harry Barker. (Great name, right?!) Obviously Miss Ivy inspired me to branch out into the pet market.  I couldn’t resist.  And plus, the starfish dog toys are perfect for Nantucket!
harrybarkerI’m over the moon about the new pillows we picked up.  So many great colors and patterns to choose from!  I am personally loving all shades of blues/indigos that are on trend right now.
pillows2pillows1Year to year, we like to reinvent ourselves as much as we can without losing sight of what we are known for.  So while we will have some of our staple go to candles, we picked up some new (and colorful) styles too!candlescandles2My most favorite new home item for next season are these bad boys… Wooden martini glasses.  Hello!!  I think a Pink & Gray is going to taste especially good in one of these!woodmartiniThe company also makes great cutting boards and trays.  I think the cheeseboard and knife set is the perfect gift!woodcuttingboardI’ll end with 2 of my favorite pieces of wall art from Sugarboo.  Sugarboo is such a happy company and we love everything they stand for!  How perfect will this be hanging in Milly and Grace?!SugarbooAnd this is the best reminder:sugarboo2I have one more new item that I want to share with you all but it will have to wait until next time.  It deserves it’s own post.  Until then!!

Our Summer ’14 Top Picks for Milly & Grace

Like I said in my style report, Summer 14 is going look very fresh!  Pretty soft colors, lots of denim, white dresses, crochet, crop tops and rompers.  Check out some of my favorite looks that will hit Milly & Grace in June.

Joie #nailedit as usual.  Their summer collection was very island (yay for us!), feminine, light and flowy.  As always, they make their pieces very low maintenance, wearable and comfortable!  I admit that I don’t own a romper yet!  (Like I’ve said before, I’m a fashion prude!  Caroline calls me plain Jane.)   This might have to be my first one:

Joie This top is going to look great with cut off jean shorts for summer and then with dark denim and cowboy boots in the fall.  Joie1pickSoft Joie is actually the first line that we ever wrote for Milly & Grace!  Soft takes tried and true styles and bodies from Joie and uses more everyday fabrics – cottons vs. silks.  Can’t you just see this cute tank going to brunch at Black Eyed Susans this summer??softjoiepickI can’t get enough of Rebecca Taylor.  When I wear it, I just feel so put together.  Her collection for summer was the true Rebecca that I know and love: soft colors, feminine bodies and just the right amount of embellishments.  Here is line up of all of our picks for Summer 14! Rebecca Taylor pickMy favorite looks from RT are usually dresses but this time around it was her tops that caught my eye.  We are seeing A LOT of batik prints for summer.  How sweet is this pretty batik print tank?!  And I LOVE this crop sweatshirt with the metallic threading detail.  This is how I’m going to fill the crop trend this summer.rebecca taylor

We can always count on Splendid to make cute everyday pieces at a great bang for your buck price.  If  you are a bit nervous about trying out a new trend – like a pop of chartreuse – look to Splendid to fill that need.splendidpick

We are SO excited to be carrying Free People next season!  Boho Chic is where it is at with Free People and we’re absolutely smitten with this top!freepeopleDuring the last few hours of the last day of the show, we got really lucky and stumbled upon a booth waayy in the back corner called Miss June.  A husband and wife team from France were showing their line for the first time in the United States!  They make the most beautiful pieces that are perfect for summertime in Nantucket!  It was a perfect fit for us.  These are only 2 of many pieces that we bought from them.  This is a MUST SEE when you stop by Milly & Grace this summer! Miss JuneOk.  Hurry up Summer!!  I can’t wait to wear your cute clothes!
