Happy Valentine’s Day

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinions starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons,

When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.” – Love Actually

Let’s take the day to celebrate all of these kinds of love. It is so much more than a couple’s holiday.

I hope that you let your loved ones know just how special they really are. And I hope each of you have a very happy Valentine’s Day!

Grammy Awards Red Carpet 2013

The Grammy’s are one of my favorite award shows because it is always so entertaining with all the music performances! I always find myself dancing in my seat to every performance. And they didn’t disappoint this year…it was a fantastic show!

The attendees made it pretty easy for me to come up with my top 5 best dressed this year. After watching the red carpet, I looked down at all the names I wrote down and I had exactly 5! All I had to do is decide where each of them ranked. And the list has been finalized!

So, you know what to do…drumroll please!

Number One

RIRI

Rihanna. As soon as I saw her, I knew she was my number one! Everything about it was so perfect. She looked so stunning in this custom red Azzedine Alaïa gown. Her hair was elegantly beautiful. The lipstick matched perfectly. The nail polish matched perfectly. And when things match perfectly…I am a happy girl!

Number Two

NAT

Natasha Bedingfield. She looked like “a pocket of sunshine” in this flirtatious red lace cutout Emerson gown. The unexpected metallic belt is such a statement and it surprisingly totally works with her look. The simple hair and earrings allows our attention to be directed on the gown…and rightfully so!

Number Three

ADELE

Adele. Oh my gosh. I was jumping up and down cheering when I saw her. FINALLY, she is wearing something other than black!!! And that something is rather exquisite. She looked so bright and beautiful in this red floral Valentino dress. And the shoes are the perfect match…literally the same pattern! The retro hair and makeup worked so well with her look. I am still excited for her that she broke out of her comfort zone…and nailed it.

Number Four

CARRIE

Carrie. She looked dazzling in this black Roberto Cavalli gown. And the $31 million necklace put the finishing touches on her classic and glamorous look. I would have liked to have seen her hair up in a structured updo. But, other than that I think she looked fabulous.

Number Five

KELLY

Kelly. This dress is amazing. But, I don’t really love anything else. The hair…sometimes I really like the way she rocks her purple hair. But, it needed to be touched up; her roots were so obvious and made her hair look ashy. The ponytail covered up the best part of the dress: THE BOW on the back! The jewelry was pretty but just didn’t do anything for me with this look. The dress though…is awesome.

I can’t wait to see what everyone is going to wear on the Red Carpet at the Oscars in only a couple weeks!!

Sunday Funday: Valentine’s Edition

This Sunday Funday was centered on all things Valentine’s Day related!

Instead of going to the movies like we usually do, we decided to watch one in the comfort of Allie’s apartment. I had been dying to see My Week With Marilyn for a while now (yes, I realized I’m about a year late). So, I was excited to finally sit down and watch it for our Valentine’s Edition of Sunday Funday…Marilyn was a love icon after all, among many other things too of course.

The movie only took place during a week of her life, but I wished it had been of her whole life. The end of the movie left me wanting more. I have a major girl crush on Michelle Williams and she was flawless in this role…so that may also have had something to do with me wanting to see her play Marilyn a little longer.

While watching the movie, Allie and I decided to make hand-crafted Valentines!

When the movie finished and our Valentines were sealed with a kiss, Allie and I made a Valentine’s dessert – a big brownie heart topped with cool whip and strawberries!

Allie’s friend/neighbor was on a little date that day, so we decided it would be better if she and her date enjoyed the heart brownie!

But, don’t worry…there was still some brownie left over to eat for ourselves!

And there was just enough to make two more little heart brownies. We packaged them up and I brought them back to school for my other Valentines: Natalie and Hannah!

Sometimes, Valentines Day gets a pretty unfortunate rep. But, it’s not just a day for couples. It’s a day to celebrate ALL kinds of love. And love is one of the most powerful, magical feelings in the world and it should be celebrated. Even if it’s just in a small way.
