Snowshoeing in Switzerland

These past few days since I have arrived in Switzerland have been bittersweet. I was really missing my family and not quite ready to leave them for so long again. And also, I was not ready for the mounds of schoolwork that await me. However, with the bitter part aside, we have been participating in many activities during this semester’s orientation that have reminded me just how beautiful this country is. I truly love it to bits and pieces.

One activity in particular was snowshoeing! When I got on the plane to come back to Switzerland, I began to feel a bit sick and haven’t quite recovered yet. So, when the 6:30am wake-up call came this morning to be ready, get breakfast, and meet in the lobby by 7:30 was quite a struggle. When my alarm went off, I was seriously considering ignoring it and just going back to sleep. I was exhausted and Hannah felt the same way since she just got in last night. But, we both rallied each other out of bed and told ourselves that if we go, we probably won’t regret it. But, if we stay, there is probably a higher chance that we will regret it. So, we went! And guess what? We didn’t regret it one bit! Sure, it was painfully early in the morning. But, all the snow and those gigantic green trees we were wandering through made it totally worth the while.

^^Sometimes, we needed help getting down the steep downhill parts.

^^Other times, we just went for it on our bums…

 ^^We made it!

But, now we are ready for a nap!

P.S. I am totally aware that I pretty much look like a boy with my baggy snow pants, beanie, and short hair. (Like this newly famous TedTalk boy in particular…Logan LaPlante) Let’s just all try to ignore that. Okay? Okay. Good, I’m glad we agree!

Style Report – Summer 2014

The Milly & Grace team just wrapped up our buying trip in NYC so I’ll fill you in on the highlights and the trends for Summer 2014!

colorssummer14Style report:  Put away those bright and bold colors from last year because this year is going to be more toned down.  The colors are a lot calmer – white, cream, chambray, every shade of denim, soft pink, light coral, lavender and muted Mediterranean blues.   If you are going to do a pop of color you better make it chartreuse!  Everyone of our lines incorporated these into their collection.

The look for 2014 is very fresh.  Lots white dresses, denim shirts in every shade, crocheted everything especially shorts and ponchos, more solids vs. patterns, patterns are way more subtle, and last but not least lots of navy & white stripes (I know that is music to my Nantucket fashionistas’ ears!!).trendssummer14Photo Credits: Rompers, Navy & White Stripe Dress, Denim Shirt, White Crochet Dress

I’m sad to say that the crop top did continue from spring to summer – I was hoping it wouldn’t make it.  I think some designers agreed with me because summer made way for a more wearable option – a little less boxy and top of the jeans length.  Ok… I guess I can get on board with that.  So we picked up a few pieces that will work on every girl.

We definitely are seeing a lot more adventurous styles- along with the crop top, there will lots of rompers, track suit pants and jumpsuits.  Being the fashion prude that I am, I just couldn’t commit to a jumpsuit for Milly & Grace.  However, jumpsuit lovers you are in luck – just skip on down Washington Street a little further to #11. The Lovely is locked and loaded and ready to cater to all your jumpsuit needs! (Here is one from Ingenue they picked up at this show!)

The one thing that surprised me most was that colored jeans are out!  What??!!  All they are giving us is white, light wash, dark wash and gray.  I love colored jeans so I’ll still be breaking mine out every now and again but I’ll just make sure to pair it with a calmer top.

That’s it for the style report!  Stay tuned – My next post will be about our top picks from the brands we carry at Milly & Grace!

Milly & Grace Buying Trip in New York 2014

millyandgracenyc

Guess what?! I didn’t have to be back in Switzerland until today so that meant that I could tag along with my mom and Emily to New York! They were headed there to do the buying for the store. We are getting ready for the new season everyone! And there is lots to be excited about….new jewelry lines, new clothing lines (like FREE PEOPLE!), and some other fun things! We started off the trip with a cancelled flight that led us to catch the ferry because there is no other way off of Nantucket other than flying or ferrying. Once we got to the cape, there were no taxis because they were all running way behind schedule. Well, our travel plans stuck tight to a schedule because we had to make sure we caught each mode of transportation necessary. So, with no taxis in sight, we had to pull our suitcases through the snow on the streets of Hyannis all the way to the bus stop. Then, we jumped on the bus for a few hours. Hopped off and hopped on a train for another several hours. Until FINALLY, we arrived in NEW YORK! It’s one of the coolest cities ever. So. Much. Character. We love it! We ate lots of yummy food (including Pinkberry which we may or may not have eaten twice a day), shopped around, and then went to the shows to gather inventory. Check it out…

Sadly, my part of the New York trip was cut short because I had to catch a flight back to school. I’m in my room in Switzerland, my bags are unpacked, and everything is organized and ready to go for the second semester. Although, if I can be completely honest…my winter break feels like it went by way too fast and I wasn’t quite ready to come back to Switzerland yet. I know I have an amazing semester ahead of me, but right now, I’m just really missing my family and home lots.  I can’t wait for them to come visit me in March!
