A Day Trip to Lucerne

lucerne1

Right now, I am currently on our school field trip to the south of France! So, last weekend we decided to take it easy and stay in Switzerland since we knew we would be traveling non-stop this whole school week. But, we couldn’t help but travel at least a bit. It’s a goal of mine to see as many cities in Switzerland as I can because I really want to know all about this country. I don’t want to get to the end of my time in Europe and realize that I know nothing about the country that I lived in for a year because I traveled so much outside of the country. I want to find a happy medium of exploring Switzerland and traveling to other countries. So, we decided to take a day trip up to a German-speaking city of Switzerland, Lucerne. It is such a pretty city with the mountains and Lake Lucerne surrounding it. We wandered in and out of the shops on the cobblestoned streets, found way too many chocolate shops that were too hard to resist, and had a yummy dinner before heading back home to Lausanne. It was a great day!

Your Fall TV Guide

I always get in a panic in the fall regarding television shows.

Time is precious… What should I be watching?  Am I missing out on something good? Will I waste my time with something bad? Should I just read a book?

Well, if you have asked yourself the same questions recently, let me help you with:

tvguide

Remember back in the day when women would watch soap operas during the day and they would call them their “stories” or their “programs?”  My babysitter would always say, “Now Timmy, my programs are on at 12 so then we have to turn off cartoons!” (Maybe this was just in Wisconsin.)

Anyway, here are my favorite “stories” for the Fall 2013 season!

1. The Black List: Mondays on NBC

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 12.00.26 PM

You won’t have the Monday Blues anymore because after work you get to come home and watch The Blacklist!  I am hooked!  One of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, Raymond Reddington, surrenders and helps the agency with a list of the top criminals he knows of, but which the FBI doesn’t know exist.  He will only cooperate with rookie agent Elizabeth Keen.  Why? We don’t know, but I have my suspicions.  So much happened in the pilot, that I have high hopes for this show!

2. Hostages: Mondays on CBS

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 12.01.27 PM

Another reason to love Mondays; Hostages is on at the same time as the Blacklist so you will have to set your DVR.  I have to suspend belief a little bit with this show, because I don’t think the American people would know the surgeon that was operating on the President in such a public way…  However, I am hooked on this show too!  The family of Dr. Ellen Sanders, who will be doing surgery on the President, is taken hostage.  She is ordered by the kidnappers to assassinate the President in order to save her family.

3. Modern Family: Wednesdays on ABC

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 12.11.04 PM

I love Modern Family and sometimes I feel they steal story lines from my life, but it’s a great show and I always get a good laugh.  There are so many shows that revolve around crime that sometimes you need a good comedy and Modern Family is probably my favorite one out there right now!

4. GLEE: Thursdays on FOX

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 12.24.05 PM

If you watch one episode of  Glee this season, let it be “The Quarterback!”  It is a tribute show to Cory Monteith who, if you didn’t know, passed away earlier this year.  I cried like a little girl during this episode.  I commend the cast for being able to film it.  It made me want to pick up the phone and tell those closest to me that I love them because you just never know…  I have always liked Glee though and plan to watch it in full since it is most likely the final season.

5. Homeland: Sundays on Showtime

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 12.11.49 PM

This season has not started off the best for me, but I loved the first two seasons of Homeland so I am still giving it a chance. I can only see Clare Daines crying because she is in a psych ward so many times. Last year, Saturday Night Live did a skit on the show and it has never been more accurate than with the first couple of episodes of Season 3.

I am hoping it picks up though and would highly recommend the first two seasons of the show.

Lastly, I would like the TV gods to bring back Smash and The New Normal!  Thank you!

Those are my top TV shows for this season!  Let me know if I am missing out on any others!

See you on Tuesdays! ;)

Same Page Monday*

Same Page Monday on a Tuesday???  What??  I know you all probably came to the blog yesterday looking for Same Page Monday and were so disappointed that it wasn’t there and that something must have gone horribly wrong.  Well it did.

Dearest Caroline, I promise I have a doctor’s note to excuse me from my failure to meet my Monday deadline.  (Caroline is the boss lady who runs the M&G Girls show.)

TMI WARNING:  Last night, I was up all night with food poisoning or a stomach bug!!  I was, well let’s see… how can I put this in ladylike terms… I don’t think there is a way, throwing up from 9 pm to 2:30 am.  Little did I know,  so was the rest of my family members who were on that girls trip!!  My poor sister and cousin were sick on their red eye flights home, but luckily a few of us had already made it home before we got sick.  Three out of the 9 girls did not get sick.  We are group texting right now, trying to figure out the culprit.  What did you eat?  I ate this.  Well, she ate that too and didn’t get sick.  I will keep you posted on what we think made us sick.

To add to that drama, firemen showed up to my apartment building around 3:30 am this morning!!  Supposedly our basement flooded, so they had to pump out the water and turn off the water!!!  I did not open my door to find out the details.  I just stared at them through the peep hole.  I was so worried that these hotties were going to knock on our doors that I changed my pj’s, cleaned up my apartment, and tried to make myself look like I hadn’t been sick all night!!  They didn’t knock.

Now, lets get on to how I was going to start Same Page Monday before all that drama.

1.  Emily and I had to keep ourselves entertained at the Reno Airport for 3 hours on Friday.  We decided to spend out time hitting the slots (like our Milly would have) and picking up some classy souvenirs.

2.  Patty has taken eyewear to a whole new level.  How can we take her out in public?  Just kidding!  We still love her… 6 eyes and all!  The Milly & Grace Girls think it’s trendy, Patty!

3.  Emily missed her puppy girl so much during the trip.  It was Ivy’s four month birthday while she was away.  :(  She would stare at pictures of her, talk to the pictures and kinda tear up.  Yep, she is one of those…

Side note:  This conversation just happened… Me: “Em, we need to leave for the airport!”  Em:  “Hold on!  I have to sign Ivy up for puppy training…. Oh no!  It’s sold out!!  I guess I will have to sign her up for the session in November.  (Baby voice)  Ivy…she’s such a good little puppy.  She’s such a good little girl.”  (20 minutes later… we leave for the airport.)

4.  If I were to be on a reality TV show, what would you think I would go on??  Let me guess, you all probably guessed something like the Bachelor or Bachelorette.  Nope.  After the ropes course/zip line/ treetop adventure course we did this weekend, I know I would dominate in Survivor.   Sign me up right now!  I would win immunity every time.  For real.

5.  Caroline is in the south of France.

6.  I am in bed.

7.  Patty and Emily are still sick.

8.  Sorry that I had to share your day with you, Tim!  Miss you!

* Same Page Monday Disclaimer:  I don’t take myself seriously.  I hope you pick up on the sarcasm.  I am not trying to be mean or stuck up.  I love everyone… even if I make fun of them!!  XOXOXOXO
